opera 4 -Madam Butterfly-

I am personally not so attracted by the story but
the production was extraordinarily awesome. Sooo fantastic.
It convicted me opera was not just a recital, concert,
ballet and fine-arts but opera-''Gesamtkunstwerk".
Also I found MET is performing Madam Butterfly in very challenging and modern way.
See the pictures, they got an idea of using a Bunraku doll, puppet for Japanese traditional art performance, in stead of a human boy. This should be because the the story is basically about Japan. You can also see the colour of the madam's belt, "OBI"-the belt for Kimono, is red
and they use it in an unusual way.
I think this symbolizes the blood of madam who is about to comit suicide for the shock of
Pincarton's betrayal.

By the way, I've found this:)
just click it and enjoy.

Cafe laro

Famous cafe because of the cinema "you've got mail."
I'd like to have the original tee which waitresses of this shop were
wearing. maybe next time.

opera 3 -La Traviata-

was really gorgeous. How can I say... the production was quite traditional which I believe gives you a kind of safe feeling while watching it.
The starburst chandeliers are donated by Swarovski and completed to restore. The new ones are machine-cut while the original were hand-cut crystals.

home party

had a party at home. five of us.
foods in the pictures are a part the sequence.
A friend of mine took these pictures.
I hope they enjoyed it.

University

atmospheric.

A student guide of university tour was saying the chapel was the

3rd biggest university chapel in the world.

So impressive inside. lots of beautiful stained glasses.

It was interesting, because the guide was also saying that this chapel was planned by an architect who had graduated from Yale and was going to be a tiny one.

You see these two schools had (actually have?) been the rival each other in many ways.

The principal at that time said to the Yale alumna architect, "NO. No. No. It must be a bi--g bi--g chapel". Then he had to change the plan. but he put his own college's mascot on the wall in stead. hahaha.

I like fall the best to see this area, although every season has different beautiful faces

Einstein

Einstein used to live around here.
The last picture was hung up on the wall of a lovely famous ice creme shop called "Thomas Sweet".
Einstein liked ice creme of this shop. The photo tells he was enjoying it.

New Hope

pretty town. 20 minutes ride from here. It's like, say, "Karuizawa" for New Yorker.
SL was running.

opera 2 -salome-

I have been really keen on watching Salome. It was lucky to see it at MET opera.
Have you ever come across that? I'm not gonna explain the detailed story here(see below),
but I'll just try to describe what I felt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salome

First of all, Iwas surprised that the MET production was really
a sort of avant-garde; salome was wearing a modern silk
silver dress without veils, King Herodias was wearing like a
white business suit, the dancing stage at the party was made of
crystal steps like in apple store!
They are all unlikely.
I was anticipating to see more classic stage, costumes and so on.
I wondered MET right in "NY" was trying to do something a sort of
underground? or quite original if you like... compared to the other opera theatres.

Anyway, it was really interesting.
I'm just curious about "necrophilia" in technical terms
to really understand Salome.

Floor

I have been thinking that being a number one or winning a prize means
getting a floor.
Imagin an olympic winner, a winner of any world competition,
whatever it is, it doesn't mean just s/he is A winner but
s/he is gonna be able to say something into the world.
That's just my opinion.

Nobel prize

-研究は汗と不満と甘い夢-

Nobel goes to four Japanese scientists so far this year.
All of them used to be associate with a Univ. in which
I used to be. And two of them used to work right here
in Princeton.

We should be proud of them.
However, watching they are interviewed in TV programme,
I just feel weird that there are something different feelings going
on between the scientists and the interviewers.
I think that's because the interviewees' sense of value are more focused on
whether what they have been doing is simply right or not rather than
they have been trying to be awarded the prize.
What Dr Nanbu is saying about researching which I wrote above
is really describing it.

Anyway, it's interesting that Dr Shimomura won the prize
for his discovery of green fluorescent protein (GFP)
in the jellyfish.

Giada

I'm a big fan of Giada de Laurentiis!
Giada, yes, NOBODY but Giada is coming to our town!
and that's not all, she is coming
to the book store just in front of my apt,
not anywherelse in NY, not anywhere in the world but
just right THERE!
Isn't this illusion??
Oh, I just can't believe it!
She is coming.
Yes.
She is coming.
I would repetitively made sure
if it wasn't halluciation..
but it seemed definitely true.
I was still half believed.
The making line started at 2 o'clock, then had been waiting
for her coming until 5 o'clock.
"She is there!"
I was successful to get her personalized sign for me on her book.
happy day :)

Bunraku

I love Bunraku sooo much.
I can tell you a lot about the
attraction of Bunraku.

My way of enjoying Bunraku is not actually only watching it
but, say, LISTENING it.
I use the phrase of "I listen to Bunraku" rather than
"I watch Bunraku" even if Bunraku is a kind of puppet play.

Huto-Zao Shamisen, a type of Japanese guiter, is used for Bunraku.
It is good for big halls rather than small Japanese entertaiment rooms called Ozashiki.
It's because Huto-Zao Shamisen is biggest and has thickest strings, which can make some
big tones compared to the other two Shamisen.

to be continued..... maybe some day.

New York Philharmonic

went NYP @Avery Fisher Hall.
I chose very contemporary programme this time,
which was really really good and enjoyable.
Lorin Maazel is retiring NYP this year, which
means his final season to conduct NYP as a music directer,
so I had to go!

This programme should be listened in NY and by NYP.
That is what I thought and actually it is.
NYP's playing "the age of anxiety" composed by Bernstein
was really something.
It's played with great concentration and it
made me think a lot of things.
Contrariry it maybe made me vacant.

yankee stadium, final season

Yankee stadium had its final season this year.
The long history from even Babe Ruth era has closed.
I went there for the day just before the actual closing day.
Though I'm afraid I couldn't see Matsui at that day,
I enjoyed seeing the game and being at the closing
historical stadium v much.
Matsui was on for the next day,,,, never mind.
I'm lucky, 'caz the game was Yankees' walk-off win.
The first photo above is new Yankee stadium,
it's already done.
I try to remember the word of "scalper".
